Thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland situated at the base of the front of the neck. It sits below the voice box & on the top of the trachea. The small, 2 inches gland consists of 2 lobes, one on each side of the windpipe, connected by a small bridge of thyroid tissue called the isthmus. The two main hormones released by thyroid are T3 Triiodothyronine & T4 Thyroxine
CAUSES THYROID PROBLEMS:
The main causes of thyroid problems are IODINE DEFICIENCY, AUTOIMMUNE DISORDERS & SURGICAL INTERVENTION. STRESS alone do not cause thyroid disorder but it can make the condition worse its impact occurs by slowing down the body metabolism
There are two main types of thyroid:
A condition when thyroid produces too much thyroxine i.e. becomes overactive. Levels of T3 & T4 increases & TSH level decreases.
A condition when thyroid produces less thyroxine. Levels of T3 & T4 decreases & TSH levels increase.

Thyroid patients can also control symptoms by using a good diet.
DIET GOOD FOR THYROID PATIENT:
➤ Milk: Fortified milk not only adds Vitamin D to your diet but also a significant amount of Calcium, Proteins & Iodine.
➤Vegetables & Fruits: Vegetables & fruits are not only good for the gastric tract but they also provide a significant amount of vitamins, proteins to the body that are important to maintain hormonal balance. Certain vegetables & fruits play a vital role in hormone production by the thyroid gland for example, broccoli, cauliflower, collard greens, peas & fruits like peaches, plum, pears, raspberries, strawberries. Fruits also play a role of antioxidants which play a role against free radicals which increase the risk of hypothyroidism.
